"Zur Sonne" |
Our
Guesthouse on the other side of the street.

It was about 150 years ago, in 1846, when Phillip
Kettermann from Enkirch discovered his ability for hospitality
and was given the concession for running a restaurant…
He collected all wine casks in the village and turned the ordinary
building into a small guesthouse.
At that time the first host of the "Gasthaus zur Sonne” was
born. His first guests were ferrymen with their horses, ramblers,
mail coach drivers, carpenters and of course others like natives
of the region.
They were dancing, singing and laughing all day long but the
guesthouse never, not for a single moment, seemed to break
down. The first stage was build for guest-rooms and the room
beneath was created for distillery. The "Art of Hostility” was
passed to other members of the family through the whole century.
In the 1950s Ewald Kettermann, orphan of Phillip Kettermann,
gained a part of the house below the guesthouse. In this part
of today’s guesthouse
a bakery had been installed by the millers. After a while the exchange premises
were bought by Ewald Kettermann and he turned it into an accommodation as well.
Since 1999 Gero Kettermann, orphan of Ewald Kettermann, runs
the enterprise in the 5th
generation. The rustic flair of the house has certainly been
kept and now it can be seen as one traditional sign of the
village of Enkirch. |
